Vonage - VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol): This is a phone service that we are just having installed. This includes unlimited long distance AND your local phone service. All for $24.95!!! (Several packages available.) Keep your same phones, (including cordless) but you are now hooked in over the internet rather than through regular phone lines. Many have highly recommended it. My son has reduced their monthly land-line telephone bill from over $80 per month (USD) to $24.95 per month when they switched to Vonage.
People are amazed to learn that you're talking to them over the internet. Quality is that good. The service is loaded with calling features. Right now they are running a special for 1 month free with the $24.95 service and when receiving a referral email from someone who already uses it, they receive 2 months free. One more way that we can all help one another. If you are already a Vonage customer, we'll include your link here, to get you a credit.

Skype - VOIP Service. Skype is a phone and instant messaging program that allows you to make free calls over the internet to anyone else who has downloaded Skype on their computers. You can also call from Skype to anyone who doesn't have the service for a reduced rate. It's free, easy to download, and works with most computers.
The main disadvantage is that you must be at your computer with a headset plugged into your computer. The advantage is that it's free to talk anywhere in the world as long as they also have the service. I use the program mostly to send "chat" messages similar to an email or instant message. If they are online, it beeps them, and they can answer you immediately.
